Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "M," attributed to Robert Mathis, Pottersville, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1836-1838, highly-ovoid jug with tooled spout, the surface covered in a mottled-brown alkaline glaze with grayish accents. Shoulder impressed with inverted "M" stamp, likely referring to Pottersville Pottery partner, Robert Mathis. Very nice condition with a few small chips to bottom and some light surface wear to body. H 15".
