Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Inkstand with Bird Motifs, Westerwald, Germany origin, 18th or 19th century, slab-built inkstand, decorated around the border with relief bird and heart motifs including hand-incised details to birds. Top with circular openings fitted with original well and sander. Cobalt highlights throughout. Inkstand with a chip to top edge on reverse and proper right front corner of pen tray, a few very minor nicks, and a short hairline extending to bottom edge area on reverse. Loss to well. Edge of sander with a small chip and two in-the-firing contact marks. Dimensions: 5 1/4" x 3 1/8" x 1 3/4".
