Large-Sized Stoneware Bellarmine Jug, probably Frechen, German, 16th or 17th century, ovoid jug with tall spout and tooled mouth, decorated on the spout with a molded design of a bearded man's face with three impressed circular designs below. Surface decorated with a dipped iron-oxide solution and covered in a clear salt glaze. Includes old wooden stopper. Provenance: From a fifty-year VA collection. Chipping around base. Old contents residue to surface, probably molasses. H (excluding stopper) 17 1/2".
