Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with heavily-brushed design of a flower blossom atop a large foliate spray. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Good condition with mostly minor flaws. Rim chips. A minor chip to shoulder molding on front. Wear and minor chipping to inner rim for lid. Some short, vertical lines to base, one of which extends 1 1/2" onto underside. A few small flakes to underside. A minor glaze line to interior, not visible on exterior. A minor chip to each handle. Some light overall staining to surface. H 10 1/8".
