Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER," NY State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jug with thick, semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of three conjoined leaves with heavily-veined interiors. Slip-trailed "2" above. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Two minuscule nicks to exterior of spout. A tiny chip to interior of spout. Some minor handle wear. A 1" inverted Y-shaped line emanating from a tiny in-the-firing ping on front. A 1 3/4" diagonal surface line on side of jug. A spot of surface wear to reverse. Other minor surface wear to body of jug. A 1/2" chip to underside of jug at bottom edge. Residue to surface at base on reverse. Other light surface staining. H 14 1/2".
