Fine One-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Incised Floral Decoration, attributed to Chester Webster, Randolph County, NC, circa 1875, highly-ovoid jug with tooled spout, heavy tooling to upper body, and triangular handle terminal, decorated with an incised design of a daisy blossom accented with impressed circles, surrounding an impressed number 1. Further incised "19(?)" above. Appealing heavy salt concentration to upper body. A 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" reglued section to underside/base, adjoining a long sealed horizontal crack at base. Otherwise excellent condition. A faint surface line to handle, not visible on underside of handle. H 12".
