Extremely Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "ALBANY WARE," probably William Capron Pottery, Albany, NY, circa 1800-1805, ovoid jug with footed base and tooled spout, decorated with brushed cobalt highlights to the oval "ALBANY / WARE" maker's mark and a cobalt daub to the shoulder on the front. One of a small number of pieces bearing this stamp, the earliest Albany stoneware maker's mark known. Provenance: Warren F. Hartmann Collection. A restored section of spout extending onto the upper handle terminal. A 1" flake to side of handle. Surface wear around midsection. Heavy chipping to base. Typical in-the-firing iron pings to surface. H 12 3/4".
