Glazed Pottery Figure of a Spaniel on Base, probably Dan Mercer, Parkersburg, WV, early 20th century, molded figure of a spaniel seated on an oblong base with canted corners, the surface covered in a reddish-brown glaze with blue-and-white highlights to the eyes and locket, and pink highlights to the nose and mouth. This spaniel figure, composed of a refined whitish clay, was likely made by potter, Dan Mercer, one of the last employees of the Donaghho pottery in Parkersburg, who established a successful operation of his own during the early 20th century. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 10 5/8".
