Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Churn with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "T.F. REPPERT. / GREENSBORO / PA.," circa 1880, cylindrical churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with T.F. Reppert maker's stenciling surrounding a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle with shield across its chest and an arrow in each foot. Base with freehad "3" flanked by flourishes. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. A 3" Y-shaped line to shoulder, not visible on interior. Two small chips to one handle. Small chips and wear to inner rim for lid. A thin T-shaped crack on underside, forming an X on underside. Some fry to cobalt. H 14 1/2".
