Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Fish Motif, Stamped "BOSTON," Jonathan Fenton, Boston, MA, late 18th century, highly-ovoid jug with tall neck accented with tooled lines, the front decorated with a large impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a heavily-scaled fish. Impressed above with "BOSTON" maker's mark of Jonathan Fenton. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some typical in-the-firing flaws, including an iron ping to reverse, small contact marks to top of spout, and a semi-circular line on underside. Some old grease or oil residue to surface. H 13".
