Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "O L & A K BALLARD / BURLINGTON, VT," circa 1856-1867, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a thickly slip-trailed design of a flower emanating from a curving stem with scrolled leaves. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Areas of fry to cobalt. A 6" crack from rim on reverse. Chips to interior of rim. Wear around inner rim for lid as well as one chip to inner rim. A salt drip near base on reverse. H 11 1/4".
