Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a leaf accented with a dotted trail. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark and capacity mark. Amber-colored glue residue to top of spout, unrelated to any sort of restoration. Oversalting to surface. Very minor in-the-firing chipping to base, as well as a few small in-the-firing contact marks to surface. H 15 1/2".
