Glazed Stoneware Devil Face Jug, Signed and Dated "Evan Javan Brown, Jr. / HANDMADE / EVAN'S POTTERY / ARDEN, N.C. / 1995," semi-ovoid jug with hand-modeled and applied clay devil face with brown-glazed surface, broken china teeth, and white-glazed highlights to horns, eyes, and goatee. Underside with incised and impressed signatures, numbered "8 of 50," additionally impressed "SOUTHERN FOLK POTTERY / COLLECTORS SOCIETY." Provenance: Carl and Marian Mullis Collection. Exhibited: Amen, Amen: Religion and Southern Self-Taught Artists in the Mullis Collection, Jundt Art Museum, Gonzaga University, October 4, 2014 to January 10, 2015. Excellent condition. H 9 3/4".
