Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "CONNOLLY & PALMER / NEW BRUNSWICK," N.J. origin, circa 1886-1889, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a leaf, accented with spots. Reverse with slip-trailed "4" below cobalt-highlighted maker's mark. Very nice condition. A small chip to exterior of rim. Minor nicks to inner rim for lid. Some in-the-firing rust-colored discoloration to base on reverse and one side. Some staining from use. Two minor in-the-firing chips to underside at edge. H 13 3/8".
