Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Brooklyn, Michigan, Advertising, attributed to S. Hart, Fulton, NY, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with tall collar and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a number "4" flanked by foliate designs. Shoulder impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "HARMAN . COOK & CO / DEALERS IN DRY GOODS / GROCERIES & C . / BROOKLYN MICH." Long spider crack from rim on reverse, including some flakes along crack on interior. Thin surface cracks throughout, not visible on interior. Staining to surface. A thin 3 1/4" crack from rim on front. Some scattered faint exfoliation to collar area. White residue and exfoliation to interior. H 13" ; Diam. (across rim) 11 3/8".
