Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Syrup Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "FORT EDWARD / POTTERY CO.," George Satterlee, Fort Edward, NY, circa 1859, ovoid jug with pinched pouring spout, decorated with large slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Unusual form. Crazing throughout bottom half of jug and underside. A large base chip on reverse. Small spots of bubbling and minor wear to cobalt. Some wear to spout on reverse. An adhered piece of clay to left side of jug. H 13 1/2".
