Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Motif, Stamped "J. REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.," early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and squared rim, the front brush-decorated with a wavy border around the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark of John Remmey III. Reverse with incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif depicting a bud flanked by splayed, scalloped leaves. Wear to rim and a minor chip to interior of rim. A thin 3 1/2 crack on underside continuing 6 1/2" up reverse of jar. A small base chip. H 11 1/2".
