Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, the front decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flowering plant, the outer stems forming daisy-like blossoms around the handle terminals. Wavy line decoration runs continuously below rim. Reverse shoulder decorated with draped chain links below zavy lines. Very nice condition with a 7/8" flake to one handle, a shallow in-the-firing chip and minor post-firing chip to opposite handle, and minor chipping to base. H 12 3/4".
