Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar, Stenciled "KNOTTS, SWINDLER & CO. / PALATINE / W. VA," circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring Knotts, Swindler, & Company maker's stenciling surrounding a stylized foliate motif. Chipping around shoulder molding. Two tiny chips to interior of rim. An in-the-firing contact mark to left side of jar. A few tiny in-the-firing pings to surface. Some in-the-firing discoloration to surface. H 10".
