Scarce Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped Twice "W. STATES," Stonington, CT, circa 1811-1823, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. Impressed with William States maker's mark on front and reverse. Front incised with a script 3 below rim. A top-to-bottom crack from rim extending onto underside. Another top-to-bottom crack from rim extending onto underside on reverse. Wire around rim and base. A 3 1/2" Y-shaped line at base. Heavy chipping to rim and base. Small in-the-firing iron pings to surface. H 13 1/2".
