Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "S.D. KELLOGG / WHATELY," MA origin, circa 1851-1853, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a large flowering plant with heavily-detailed blossom and vine-like stems with scrolled leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Exfoliation to base area. Some scaling to shoulder area. A few in-the-firing pings to surface. Wear to edge of one handle. Some light water glass staining to decoration. A small X-shaped line to interior, not visible on exterior. H 13 1/4".
