Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird-0n-Stem Decoration, attributed to W. Roberts, Binghamton, NY, circa 1870, ovoid jar with flattened rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a flowering stem. Slip-trailed "3" above. A 7" crack from rim on reverse. A thin, 1 1/4" crack from rim on jar's left side. Two small rim chips. A chip to one handle. A 4" Y-shaped surface line to right of bird, not visible on interior. A thin crack across underside, forming a 1 1/2" Y at base. H 10 7/8".
