Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "A.K. BALLARD, / BURLINGTON. VT," circa 1867-1874, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a cluster of grapes hanging from a leafy vine. One handle with two shallow chips, measuring 1" and 5/8". Other handle with a small chip. A 3/4" chip to interior of rim. Wear to inner rim for lid. A network of tight lines on underside, including one line extending 3 3/4" up reverse of churn. An additional short crack at base on reverse. Staining. Some bubbling to cobalt. A 1 1/4" in-the-firing base chip. H 17".
