Very Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Loaf Dish, Stamped Twice "J. McCULLY / TRENTON," NJ origin, circa 1800-1850, with coggled edge, the lead-glazed interior decorated with alternating paired and singular trails of yellow slip. Underside impressed twice with the signature of Trenton, New Jersey potter, Joseph McCully (b.1771-d.1857). Few signed examples of his work are known. A signed McCully loaf dish of related form and a plate with related decoration can be found in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, NY. A shallow 2 1/2" flake to interior of rim. A 2 7/8" flake to rim on reverse, visible as a 1 1/4" chip at rim on front. A 2 3/8" surface line to interior from rim. L 15 1/4".
