Exceptional Stoneware Chicken Waterer with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped Twice "HENRY / PHILA," attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, dome-shaped form with stepped finial, arched tab handles, and applied water trough with carved opening; brush-decorated with leaves flanking the opening and cobalt around its mouth. Additional leaf decoration to sides of waterer. Reverse with hanging floral motif surrounded by dashes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed at the shoulder and base with the mark, "HENRY / PHILA," for Philadelphia bird dealer, William A. Henry. One of a small number of surviving examples bearing this stamp known. Excellent condition with a tiny nick to one handle and an in-the-firing surface fissure below Henry mark. H 8".
