Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a two-stemmed clover plant. Freehand cobalt 6 below each handle, an unusual treatment, underscored by a curving line. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 9" firing crack on interior, visible as a hairline on exterior. Chips to one handle. Two very minor chips to opposite handle. A 7" hairline on underside, continuing 1 3/4" up base. A small chip to interior of rim. Jar is slightly out-of-round. H 16 3/8".
