One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1835, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and arched tab handles, brush-decorated on one side with a horizontal tulip motif and on the opposing side with a two-stemmed clover plant. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. This work features a rarely-seen combination of two classic Baltimore motifs on the same piece. A chip to each handle. A 1 3/8" in-the-making rim chip, which is glazed over. An in-the-firing fissure on underside, not visible on interior. A small glazed-over base chip. H 10 1/2".
