Exceptional Redware Spittoon with Profuse Manganese Decoration, attributed to Solomon Miller, Adams County, PA, late 19th century, cylindrical form with dramatic stepped turnings, the shoulder with carved squarish opening, the top with recessed circular opening; lead-glazed surface decorated with profuse, haphazardly-applied manganese brushwork over a mottled green-and-orange ground. The decoration and color of the glazed clay indicate Solomon Miller as the maker. Among the finest Pennsylvania redware spittoons that we have offered. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
