Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flower Basket Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO: / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a basket brimming with leaves, vines, dotted, trails, and a large flower. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Rim chips. Staining. A thin 3" crack from rim on front. A 5" and 4 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. Exfoliation, not affecting decoration. H 10 3/8".
