Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Collin Rhodes, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim and arched tab handles, the surface covered in a flowing green-to-brown alkaline glaze and decorated in slip-trailed kaolin slip with different floral motifs on the front and reverse. One side features daisies flanking a narrow, scallop-edged blossom, while the opposing side depicts fan-shaped flowers flanking a similar scalloped blossom. An approximately 6" x 4" reglued and painted section descending from rim on the side decorated with fanned blossoms, including a long unrestored hairline descending from it. A faint 11" hairline from rim on opposing side. A 6 1/2" curved section of rim restored. A 2 1/2" hairline above one handle. H 15 1/2".
