Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, tapered churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a hanging cluster of grapes flanked by leaves and two looping vines. Striped details throughout grapes and leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Includes wooden dasher. Also includes salt-glazed lid, incised "6" on underside, not original to the churn. Significant restoration throughout, not affecting decoration. Two small chips to lid, one of which occurred in the firing. H (excluding lid) 19 3/8".
