Two One-Gallon Stoneware Jugs with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "BALLARD / VALE / STONE WARE / MF.G.C," MA origin, circa 1880, both of cylindrical form, decorated with slip-trailed plant motifs. Cobalt highlights to maker's marks. Taller jug with some staining and a 1 3/4" in-the-firing flake and long semi-circular in-the-firing surface crack to underside, forming a short line at the base. Shorter with two spout chips and in-the-firing mottling to clay. H (of smaller) 11 3/4".
