Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Snake Decoration, OH origin, circa 1880, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a sinuous snake with dashed scaling and protruding tongue. Slip-trailed, underscored "4" above. Exfoliation to surface. Three cracks from rim, measuring 7 1/2", 5", and 5". This damage includes chips to interior along the 7 1/2" crack. Chips to one handle and a chip and wear to opposite handle. Wear to interior of rim. Exfoliation to interior base area. H 12".
