Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Double-Bird Decoration, Stamped "S, HART / FULTON," NY State origin, mid 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of crossed bird including spotted bodies and cobalt-highlighted wings, seated on a looping flourish. Slip-trailed "4" with looping to flourish to the left. Slip-trailed cobalt stripes through maker's mark. A small in-the-firing iron ping to left of birds. A faint spider line to front, extending from left bird's head to the slip-trailed "4." An additional large spider line to left of "4" and another large spider line to right of birds. A 6 3/4" vertical line below one handle. A few small, in-the-firing chips to underside at edge. A small chip to interior of rim. A 3" Y-shaped line to reverse and a 3" vertical diagonal line to reverse. H 11 3/4".
