Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Horse Head Decoration, attributed to W. Hart, Ogdensburgh, NY, circa 1858-1869, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a horse's head with bridle, underscored by a looping line. Slip-trailed "2" above. Fry to cobalt. A glazed-over iron ping to left of decoration. Wear to interior of rim. Chips and wear to inner rim for lid. A 1 3/8" base chip, which is partially glazed over. A 2 3/4" line to underside, not visible on interior. Some staining. H 11 1/4".
