Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Dragonfly Decoration, Stamped "I. SEYMOUR. TROY.," NY State origin, circa 1830, ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with a brushed design of a dragonfly with dotted trails below. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. The first example of Seymour stoneware that we have offered with an insect design. Excellent condition with a minor chip and short line to top of spout, a small piece of adhered clay to top of spout, some staining, two tiny in-the-firing pings to shoulder, and very minor traces of old red paint to surface. H 12".
