Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Rabbit and Floral Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1841-1844, semi-ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a delicate cobalt rendering of a leaping rabbit and flowering plant. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An incised X to shoulder on right side. A small, recessed in-the-firing contact mark to front. An in-the-firing iron ping to left side of jug. Small spout chips. A short hairline to spout. A minor, glazed-over surface line where handle meets spout. Staining to surface. H 15 1/4".
