One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Butterfly Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON," Bennington, VT, circa 1841-1844, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a brushed design of a butterfly. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Large network of tight cracks extending from shoulder to base on left side. Additional short cracks below butterfly. Reverse with a 6" inverted Y-shaped line, a smooth in-the-firing contact mark, and a small piece of adhered clay at base on handle. H 11 1/2".
