Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "O.L. & A.K. BALLARD. / BURLINGTON. VT," circa 1856-1867, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a bold slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent condition with a small amount of bubbling to cobalt to tip of wing and part of tail, some minor staining and a few flecks of old paint to surface, and a very short surface line at top edge of spout. H 14 1/4".
