Glazed Redware Figure of a Dog with Basket, PA origin, circa 1850-1880, hand-modeled figure of a seated dog on oval base, featuring collar, open mouth, and exposed tongue, carrying a basket of apples in its mouth. Incised details to face and paws, the body decorated with profuse gouged incising simulating hair, the head, neck, and tail featuring longer incised strokes. Base with impressed circles around edge and intricate impressed floral motif between dog's legs. Surface covered in a reddish-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Excellent condition with minor wear to head and tail. The state of preservation of this figure, even retaining the original handles to the basket, is noteworthy. H 4 1/4" ; L 5 1/8".
