Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1870, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a foliate motif. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes fitting Albany-slip-glazed lid. A 9 1/2" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on fair left side of churn's front. A 5 1/2" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on front. A thin 3" crack from rim on churn's right side. Very minor wear to inner rim for lid. A small chip to edge of lid. H (excluding lid) 17 7/8".
