Three-Gallon Boston, MA Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Standing Bird Decoration, NY State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested bird with long legs, standing on a stylized ground. Impressed above with the advertising, "DEAN FOSTER & CO / 14 BLACKSTONE St / BOSTON." Cobalt highlights to advertising and capacity mark. A thin, 8" inverted Y-shaped line extending through decoration on front, including a small surface chip. A few overfired contact marks to shoulder area, including one to bird's face involving a tiny piece of adhered clay. Heavy chipping to spout. A minor base chip. Some faint mottling to clay. H 16 3/4".
