Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "GEDDES.N.Y," William H. Farrar, Geddes, NY, circa 1860, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with an intricate slip-trailed and brushed design of a bird and flower atop a mound, detailed with alternating dashes and bordered by spots. Spiraling slip-trailed "3" to right of bird. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Excellent condition with two base chips, minor surface wear, light staining, and a smooth in-the-firing contact mark to front. H 16 1/2".
