Two-Gallon Somerville, MA Stoneware Advertising Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Ft. Edward, NY origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch. Impressed above with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "McCARTHY BROS / SOMERVILLE / MASS." Rim chips. A 3 1/2" diagonal crack from rim on front. Various cracks to underside/extending partway up body of crock. Staining. H 9 3/8".
