Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, CT origin, early 19th century, a rare two-gallon churn with cobalt highlights, stamped "KNOWELS & STATES. / NEW LONDON," paired with a one-gallon jar with faint, stylized brushwork, stamped on front and reverse, "SWAN & STATES / STONINGTON." Churn includes early wooden lid. Churn has base broken into pieces and reglued, including a few base chips, a flake to underside, and a thin crack extending below one handle. Additional faint surface crazing to exterior of rim area and an in-the-firing stone ping to reverse. Jar with base reglued in one piece, including short vertical lines extending from it. H (of jar) 8 7/8".
