Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with slip-trailed design of a wreath accented with dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Desirable size and design. Large area of painted restoration to reverse, covering, at least in part, a long vertical crack. Restoration to exterior surface of spout on left side of jug and restoration to an area of top of spout. Minor staining. H 18".
