Unusual Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Impressed Federal Shield Motif, Southern U.S. origin, second half 19th century, narrow-bodied, semi-ovoid jar with dark-olive alkaline glaze, impressed with a small cross-hatched Federal shield at shoulder. A 3/4" chip on interior of rim forming a 3/8" rim chip on exterior. A 2 1/2" Y-shaped line from rim including a small rim chip. H 11 1/2".
