Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Churn, Stenciled "WILLIAMS AND REPPERT. / GREENSBORO. PA," circa 1885, cylindrical churn with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with Williams & Reppert maker's stenciling surrounding stenciled flourishes. Freehand straight and wavy stripe decoration to shoulder, midsection, and base. Base with freehand "6" flanked by flourishes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA. Interior of reverse with a 2" flake tapering to a tiny hole on exterior, filled with a translucent yellow material. Two chips to end of one handle. A chip to interior of rim. Wear to inner rim for lid. Minor staining to front. H 19 1/4".
