Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Hanging Thistle Decoration, Stenciled "Greensboro.," Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a thistle with scarce downward-facing orientation, below the stenciled town name, "Greensboro." Freehand cobalt stripe above. Desirable form and highly-prized Western PA stenciled motif. Excellent condition with a few minuscule nicks to shoulder molding, a minuscule nick to inner wax sealer rim, a tiny chip to interior of rim, some minor bubbling/spalling to cobalt, and some faint traces of old green paint to surface. H 7".
