One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. &. E. NORTON, / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with flattened rim and applied lug handles, decorated with slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable size. Excellent condition with a nick to one handle and a minor chip to opposite handle. "J." and "B" are not visible on stamp. H 7 1/4" ; Diam. 8 1/4".
